Welcome to Monmouthshire Youth Service

Monmouthshire Youth Service works with young people in Monmouthshire, supporting them as they change from children to adults, from dependence to independance.

It helps young people, particularly those most in need, as they learn about life.

It's about young people, particularly learning in their own time, in informal settings - and because they want to.

Youth work is fun and exciting and engages young people in all stages of their learning.

Monmouthshire Youth Service aims to:
- Work flexibility with young people so they can continue to learn throughout their lives.
- Develop their ability to play an active role as citizens, both as individuals and collectively
- Support and develop opportunities for young people to influence decision-making.
- Work with other agencies to ensure services meet young peoples needs.

What is youth work?
Youth work starts with young people and their own needs, interests and experiances. It builds on these, working at their own pace.

Youth work is a voluntary relationship in which young people take part because they choose to do so, and mainly in their own time.

Youth work is a learning partnership based on mutual respect and trust between young people and youth workers. Young people have control and choice over the relationship.

Youth work promotes young people's voices so they can have a say in their communities and an influence in the wider world.

Youth work stands for equality of opportunity and against oppression. Young people should have activities and facilities regardless of gender; race, sexual orientation or physical or educational ability.
